Dédicace de bassins rupestres antiques à proximité de Bâb al-Falag (Mârib) Après avoir visité Sirwâl,1 1 , la Mission française s'est rendue à Mârib. Elle y a parcouru en parti culier le Ùabal aJ-Balaq al-Ùanûbî, à une dizaine de kilomètres au sud de Mârib, accompagnée des préhistoriens Roger de Bayle des Hermens et Danilo Grébenart qu; souhaitaient voir les nombreux monuments funéraires qui se trouvent sur cette montagne. Lors de cette visite, cAbd ar-Razzâq as-Sargabî (du Département des Antiquités) a attiré notre attention sur un site encore inconnu. Il s'agit de quatre petits bassins en enfilade, taillés dans le roc, avec diverses inscriptions sur ces bassins et alentour. La plupart des inscriptions étaient déjà éditées grâce à des estampages faits pour le compte d'Eduard Glaser à la fin du XIX• siècle. Mais ni l'emplacement des inscriptions, ni le contexte archéologique n'étaient connus. Ce dernier présente un grand intérêt et justifie une nouvelle publication de ces textes. Le Site Le site en question se trouve sur une avancée rocheuse du Gabal al-Balaq al-Ùanûbî qui sur plombe l'entrée nord de la passe de Bâb al-Falag, approximativement à la verticale de l'endroit où est gravé le texte Ja 539 2 • Il se compose d'un gros rocher portant le texte n° 1 avec, au pied, quatre petits bassins en enfilade, taillés dans le même bloc (Abb. 31 et Taf. 38 a-d). Ces bassins sont alignés d'ouest en est à peu de chose près, et disposés en gradins, le plus élevé à l'ouest et le plus bas à l'est. Les trois premiers bassins (à partir de l'ouest) sont de forme rectangulaire alors que le quatrième est circulaire. Leurs dimensions sont modestes: le plus long mesure 71 cm et le plus large 47 cm; quant à la profondeur, elle n'excède pas 23 cm. Une évaluation approximative de leur capacité donne, en suivant les bassins d'ouest en est: 57 litres; 66 litres; 62 litres et 27,5 litres. Sur le flanc sud de chacun des quatre bassins se répète le même mot, Mrfd", qui est le nom du donateur. On trouve trois textes très courts sur le rebord nord des trois bassins rectangulaires. On relève enfin quatre graffites et textes rupestres dans le voisinage et une petite pierre inscrite. Du fait de leur localisation et des textes de dédicace qui les accompagnent, ces quatre bassins avaient certainement une fonction religieuse ou funéraire: on trouve en effet dans cette partie du Gabat al-Balaq al-Ganûbî une vaste nécropole (et peut-être la tombe du Mrfd" qui a dédié les bassins), sans parler du site dit des «Listes d'éponymes». The undulating mud brick walls from the 7 th –4 th Century BC are among the largest buildings in the ancient Egyptian culture, apart from the famous pyramids of the Old Kingdom. While the monumental temples of this period have continuously been the subjects of research, the exterior walls built with mud bricks have only rarely been the focus of scientific studies. In terms of an architectural semantics, Egyptologists' research has so far mainly focussed on the ancient perception of the buildings and in doing so has assumed the existence of a link between the characteristic appearance of the walls and the ancient Egyptian mythology. Aspects in terms of historical building research as well as the structural analysis were, in contrast, much less examined and mostly only studied on the basis of isolated findings. As part of the project, numerous undulating walls were studied and documented during several fieldwork campaigns in cooperation with the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) since 2011. In the course of this work, the enclosure walls of Heliopolis and Elephantine could be examined in greater detail. This provided insights into the relationship between design and technological advantages. Built in alternate panels of concave and convex courses of mud brick, the sequence of construction could be accelerated by raising the concave panels first. The structural analysis of the walls allows the assumption, that the stability could be increased in conditions of permanent weight. Based on these observations it can be concluded that this construction technique brought essential structural benefits. The paper presents the archaeological fieldwork and illuminates the architecture and construction history of the individual buildings in more detail. Based on observations made from the enclosure wall of the temple of Atum-Re at Heliopolis, which was the largest temple complex in Ancient Egypt, the paper focuses on the organisation of construction work.

The area of the Temple of Heliopolis in Matariya was enclosed by two parallel courses of mud brick walls of different date, measuring about 1100 m east-west and 900 m north-south. Approximately 100 m of this outer enclosure wall are rather well preserved to a height of 3 m. The architectural survey finished the documentation of 60 m and pursued a section on top of the outer enclosure wall to investigate the junction of two segments. Die 26. Dynastie Die Dynastie mit Sitz in Sais im Delta ist der letzte kulturelle Höhepunkt der Ägyptischen Hochkultur. Noch einmal wurde bewusst an die glorreiche Zeit früherer Epochen angeknüpft. Es entstanden in dieser Zeit seltsame Kulturschöpfungen, so werden Gräber im Stil des Alten Reiches geschaffen und nur der spätzeitliche Name des Grabinhabers Petamenophis verrät sofort die spätere Entstehung. Zudem schienen die Ägypter gefühlt zu haben, dass ihre Kultur langsam im Schwinden war. Im Grab TT 33 in Theben hat der Besitzer alte Ritualtexte auf die Wände setzen lassen, um sie der Nachwelt zu erhalten. Sein Kalkül ging sogar auf, da die Texte im Grab wichtige Informationen für die Lesung der alten Texte geliefert haben (Traunecker und Régen 2016). Ägypten war nun verschiedenen fremden Einflüssen ausgesetzt und zog sich kulturell-religiös auf sich selbst zurück, man betonte traditionelles und kultivierte das Alte. Psammetich I. Kim and his crewmates are completing a 245-day mission aboard the station. At the conclusion of their mission, they will have orbited Earth 3,920 times and traveled nearly 104 million miles. This was the first flight for Kim and Zubritsky to the orbiting laboratory, while Ryzhikov is ending his third trip to space.

Wo genau sie gefunden wurde und ob es sie je gegeben hat, ist umstritten: Entweder befand sie sich bei den Füßen einer der beiden Wächterfiguren, die den Durchgang zur Sargkammer bewachten, oder sie wurde am 4. Die 26. Dynastie Die Dynastie mit Sitz in Sais im Delta ist der letzte kulturelle Höhepunkt der Ägyptischen Hochkultur. Noch einmal wurde bewusst an die glorreiche Zeit früherer Epochen angeknüpft. Es entstanden in dieser Zeit seltsame Kulturschöpfungen, so werden Gräber im Stil des Alten Reiches geschaffen und nur der spätzeitliche Name des Grabinhabers Petamenophis verrät sofort die spätere Entstehung. Zudem schienen die Ägypter gefühlt zu haben, dass ihre Kultur langsam im Schwinden war. Im Grab TT 33 in Theben hat der Besitzer alte Ritualtexte auf die Wände setzen lassen, um sie der Nachwelt zu erhalten. Sein Kalkül ging sogar auf, da die Texte im Grab wichtige Informationen für die Lesung der alten Texte geliefert haben (Traunecker und Régen 2016). A growing scientific movement is investigating the complex and interconnected relationship between environmental degradation, infectious diseases, and global health, an approach often referred to as “One Health”. This paradigm challenges the long-held assumption that human health exists independently of the planet’s health. In the present review, three major global issues—environmental pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change—are considered as key drivers of disease emergence and spread. Environmental pollution may affect the immune system, making living species, including humans, more vulnerable to infectious diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted this link, as studies in Italy and elsewhere correlated higher air pollution levels with increased spread and severity of the virus. Biodiversity loss, according to the “dilution effect” theory, can increase disease transmission. In ecosystems with a wide variety of species, pathogens are “diluted” because their vectors are more likely to encounter hosts that cannot transmit the disease. When biodiversity declines, however, “super-spreader” species that are effective at transmitting pathogens, such as certain rodents and bats, often dominate, increasing the risk of zoonotic spillovers. Finally, climate change exacerbates these issues by expanding the geographical range of disease vectors like mosquitoes and by creating extreme weather events that can lead to outbreaks of waterborne diseases. The present review addresses these issues by describing some key examples, such as the relationship between atmospheric contamination and the outbreak of infectious diseases, the role of biodiversity loss in Lyme disease, and the increase in the range of insect vectors of malaria and dengue associated with climate change. A multidisciplinary approach is fundamental to addressing these global challenges, suggesting collaboration between experts in human and veterinary medicine, developmental biology, environmental science and toxicology, and public policy, as well as the need to raise public awareness. This challenge could also be addressed through the advent of innovative technologies capable of significantly increasing our ability to access large multidisciplinary databases. Among these, artificial intelligence-based technologies could undoubtedly play a leading role.

En la exposición Tarros de Chutney, Bobby Baker creó una performance donde mostraba tarros de conserva elaborados por ella, en los que se combinaban «la gratificación de la productividad, el valor de preservar algo, la funcionalidad a la hora de favorecer la economía doméstica […] y el placer estético de contemplar la instalación que los tarros formaban una vez colocados en la estantería», como narra María Arranz en El delantal y la maza. Ramírez terminó de escribir su libro al lado de una instalación igual que esa, pero firmada por otra autora: su madre, entonces ya ausente. Uno de esos tarros lleva el nombre de Noelia, en una conserva que su madre hizo para ella. «Ahí está, en mi despensa, dedicada, una de sus últimas grandes obras.»

La periodista Noelia Ramírez convierte el descubrimiento de Van Eyck en una suerte de poética y se sirve de la metáfora del umbral para escribir su ensayo Nadie me esperaba aquí, en el que reflexiona sobre la reconciliación con nuestros orígenes y el privilegio. Proveniente de una familia andaluza que se instaló en Cataluña en busca de mejores oportunidades, pone de manifiesto cómo ha tenido que disfrazar sus raíces y su propia identidad para ganar capital social y cómo es esta la única manera en la que las voces de la periferia logran acceder al centro del discurso cultural. En ese orfanato que funciona como un umbral, ve la posibilidad de dar un significado a un espacio sin definir.
¿Cómo habitar la categoría sin categoría, ese espacio que no es ningún espacio? El de ser «casi catalana», «casi charnega», «casi pija», «casi choni», «casi víctima», «casi vengadora», «casi madre», «casi escritora»; ese «casi» en el que la categoría nunca es completa y reconocible para los demás. Nadie me esperaba aquí crea, con palabras, ese nuevo espacio que Van Eyck concibió a través de la arquitectura: ¿funciona el texto como refugio para las personas que no lo tienen en su familia, identidad, trabajo o clase?

El 19 de julio de 1953, el arquitecto Aldo van Eyck, conocido por crear los parques infantiles más populares del mundo, escuchó por primera vez la palabra «umbral» en el IX Congreso Internacional de Arquitectura Moderna, en Aix-en-Provence. «El flechazo llegó al ver unas fotografías de críos jugando frente a sus casas en un barrio al este de Londres tomadas por los arquitectos Alison y Peter Smithson, expuestas en la charla del matrimonio a propósito de un proyecto de rehabilitación de un barrio con casas jardín», así lo describe Noelia Ramírez en Nadie me esperaba aquí y añade que lo más fascinante para Van Eyck fue ver cómo los espacios deshacían la polaridad entre lo individual y lo colectivo. Esa idea se encontró con las propuestas del nuevo brutalismo, el movimiento que estaban fundando Alison y Peter Smithson, influidos a su vez por Le Corbusier y Mies van der Rohe. Para los Smithson, la arquitectura era «el resultado directo de un modo de vida, una afinidad entre la construcción y el ser humano».
Aunque Van Eyck ya había diseñado treinta espacios urbanos de juego infantil, la idea del umbral le ofrecía la posibilidad de incorporar en su arquitectura una nueva conciencia, idea que materializó en el orfanato municipal de Ámsterdam, donde creó una ciudad ideal en un microcosmos para ciento cincuenta niños. El edificio parece una ciudadela o un laberinto, compuesto por muchos espacios interiores y exteriores interconectados en un orden complejo que acaba por fundirlos unos en otros, de forma casi imperceptible. Van Eyck desarmó la frontera entre el edificio y la ciudad, convencido de que lo privado y lo colectivo están estrechamente vinculados. En otras palabras: creó la arquitectura del umbral o, como afirma Ramírez, «se atrevió a definir una nueva conciencia de lo que queda en medio».

Hablando de ríos caudalosos: Novela del año, Las pirañas, de Miguel Sánchez-Ostiz.
Hablando de puentes: abrimos mañana, sábado, de 11 a 14h y de 18 a 20:30h, por la mañana y por la tarde, no vaya a ser que quieras llevarte ya todos los libros de la lista que te hagan tilín. Domingo y lunes, cerrado.
La lista es una constante desde que abrimos, pero va cambiando con los vientos literarios. Será como la mimbre, que la bambolea el aire pero se mantiene firme. Algunas de las corrientes que han entrado con fuerza este año: una creciente infiltración de lo fantástico en catálogos editoriales no especializados, como si tuviéramos la necesidad de la imaginación desbordante para leer el presente. También le hemos dedicado un apartado a lo que hemos llamado ‘Rescatados’: libros que viven una segunda oportunidad para dialogar con el ahora, bien porque permanecían descatalogados o porque nunca habían sido publicados en nuestro idioma. Se incluye también un pequeño apartado para pensar en Gaza, en todo lo que supone eso, desde distintas perspectivas: pensamiento, historia y periodismo.
Están ahí nuestros tradicionales grupos de los libros piraña, los bestsellers al estilo corsario, las lecturas nutritivas, los de nuestro lado salvaje, los cómics tachán, el periodismo narrativo, lo próximo y lo lejano, la crítica cultural, la parte infantil y juvenil bien ordenadita por sus rangos de edad… todo hasta completar esa cifra mágica de ciento y pico para adultos y medio centenar largo de la sección LIJ. Y, como siempre, está la diversidad editorial, la presencia de sellos medianos, pequeños y mínimos, porque suele ser ahí donde encontramos petróleo.
Creemos que los tres libros elegidos reflejan bien lo que ha sido el año. Las pirañas como el rescate de una novela que molestó a todo el mundo cuando se publicó por primera vez a principios de los noventa y el país estaba emburbujado –dame una C ¡Construcción!, dame una J ¡JJOO!– y a nadie le interesaba mirar atrás con ira, a nadie salvo a Miguel Sánchez-Ostiz. Excesiva, torrencial, lúcida en su repartir a diestro y siniestro, salvaje, barroca, negrísima.
Papel negro, de Teju Cole con traducción de Miguel Temprano García, contiene todo lo que nos gusta en un ensayo: un punto de vista esquinado que construye una lectura de lo contemporáneo a través de la cultura. Cole nos conmina a intensificar la mirada poniendo el foco en los puntos de sombra donde nadie quiere mirar: el inmigrante, el fugitivo, el rechazado. Una trama conceptual donde Caravaggio y las personas que llegan en patera a un puerto italiano pueden compartir algo en común. Un libro magnífico y –tal y cómo se está poniendo el paisaje sociopolítico, usaremos este adjetivo por una vez y sin que sirva de precedente–, necesario.
Silent Jenny, de Mathieu Bablet, nuestro cómic del año, está en sintonía con esa idea de cómo la ciencia ficción y lo fantástico nos hablan del presente. Un despliegue de color y personajes bien construidos para contar una historia en la que los habitantes de un mundo distópico conservan una mínima esperanza desde la construcción de células mínimas de resistencia, más allá de la mera supervivencia. Cuando el presentimiento se ha convertido ya en la cruda realidad.

Doch die Kritiker:innen einer pazifistischen Haltung steigen nur allzu oft auf die Kriegslogik Putins und anderer Völkerrechtsbrecher ein und reproduzieren die Aussage, «wir» müssten nun halt auch das «Recht des Stärkeren» hochhalten und eine internationale Friedensordnung sei sowieso nur eine Illusion. Mein Plädoyer für einen politischen Pazifismus in der aktuellen Ausgabe der «Friedenszeitung» zeigt, dass Widerstand gegen gewalttätige Machthaber und kriegsführende Staaten anders aussehen muss und dass eine Friedensperspektive möglich ist.

This article investigates the dynamics of microcredit in late-medieval Italy by examining the case of fourteenth-century Vercelli and its surrounding rural area. Drawing on an extensive corpus of notarial sources, it highlights how credit networks were sustained not only by elite bankers and merchants but also by less prominent actors embedded in everyday social and economic life. Two case studies – the baker Enrico da Greggio and the priest Salerno Ferraroto – illustrate the role of small-scale lenders and borrowers in structuring a dense web of transactions. Their activities reveal how personal trust, proximity and reciprocity enabled access to liquidity through loans, rents and credit, often mediated by the Sant’Andrea monastery and hospital. Far from marginal, these practices constituted a vital infrastructure of support for urban and rural populations alike, allowing individuals of modest means to become active participants in the circulation of capital. By analysing these intertwined networks, the article underscores the significance of documentary practices in shaping the economy of trust and credit. The study ultimately argues that grassroots credit systems were central to the functioning of late-medieval urban society, challenging narratives that privilege only large-scale or institutional forms of credit.

À Gaillac, la réalisation d’un drain autour de l’abbatiale Saint-Michel a occasionné la prescription d’une fouille archéologique le long du gouttereau nord de l’église, jusqu’aux fondations du mur. Fondée au Xe siècle sur les vestiges d’un établissement gallo-romain, l’abbatiale semble intégralement reconstruite au XIIIe siècle. Malgré l’étroitesse de la fenêtre d’observation, cette intervention a révélé une stratigraphie de plus d’un millénaire d’occupation, préservée par le rehaussement global des terrains à l’époque contemporaine. Outre les données archéologiques concernant l’histoire architecturale de l’abbatiale, les phases d’inhumations successives révèlent les évolutions des pratiques funéraires médiévales, et notamment le recours à l’inhumation en caveaux entre le XIIIe et le XVe siècle, dont le fonctionnement se démarque des usages d’époque moderne. This paper addresses Australian UFOlogy which is to date a little-researched area, and which participates in multiple global UFOlogical discourses, including: reinterpretation of the Bible and other traditional religious texts as records of alien encounters; White UFO beliefs and new religions (the Aetherius Society, Raelism, etc.); Indigenous stories recast as alien encounters which affirm Indigenous identity, the primacy of Aboriginal ownership of the land, and rejection of colonialism; and a special role for the continent at the end of the Earth (geographically) in the end of the world (temporally). I draw on Richard Landes, Michael Barkun, and Brian L. Keeley to establish the vital importance of paranoia and conspiracism in third millennial Australian UFOlogy, and on Guy Debord and Mark Fisher to demonstrate that Australian UFOlogy (of all types, not merely the Indigenous version) is haunted by the colonial past – with its massacres and atrocities, dispossessions and ongoing violence - and the ecological eschaton of the future, given that Australia has experiemced the largest decline in biodiversity of any continent, and the highest rate of extinction (plant, but most tragically animal, in the modern world).

Superradiance offers an efficient approach for coupling discrete quantum emitters via collective fluorescence. In this work, we suggest a method for the controlled coupling and synchronization of distant integrated photonic emitters using superradiance. Our theoretical modeling and analysis using electromagnetic and Master Equation methods for a case of nanodiamond/SiN heterogenous photonic platform confirms efficient superradiant coupling of distant emitters and a good degree of spurious emission isolation. This approach can offer a path to the scalable generation of multipartite photonic states, such as NOON states, and can enable efficient cluster state generation and one-way quantum computing approaches.

The paper examines local variations in funerary practices during the late 7th and early 6th centuries B.C. in Attica, with a particular focus on the differences between practices in Athens and the surrounding regions. It highlights the significance of offering trenches found in the Kerameikos cemetery as well as in other necropolises such as Vari. Analysis of ceramic artifacts, including column-kraters and lekanai, reveals distinct ceremonial practices that deviated from the more common sympotic patterns observed in the Kerameikos. Ultimately, this study sheds light on the diversity of burial customs and their implications for understanding Archaic Attica society.

Ce rapport présente les résultats préliminaires des travaux de la mission syro-française de Ras Shamra-Ougarit pour les campagnes de 2005 et 2006 : recherches dans les musées, exposition Ougarit Blues, étude des temples de Baal et de Dagan, fouille du chantier « du rempart », fouille du chantier « Grand-rue ». L'étude des temples est achevée et va donner lieu à une publication prochaine. Les chantiers de fouille sont en cours et le présent rapport livre les premiers résultats obtenus sur les vestiges du Bronze récent exhumés ces deux dernières années.

Die Staatsverschuldung wird häufig als Überwälzung einer Last auf künftige Generationen dargestellt. Dabei werden die Interessen «unserer Enkel» als Argument bemüht, um öffentliche Investitionen, die für die Umsetzung internationaler Klimaziele nötig sind, zu bekämpfen. Der Aufsatz zeigt demgegenüber, dass Generationengerechtigkeit nur möglich ist, wenn heute grosse Summen für eine sozialverträgliche ökologische Transformation von Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft ausgegeben werden.
