It appeared in the popular magazine The Sciences, published by the New York Academy of Sciences from 1961 to 2001. References to the evidence for the claims made in that paper are to be found in the commentary “Astronomical alignments in medieval Islamic religious architecture”, Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences 385 (1982): 303-312. The popular article has had four times as many readers on Academia as the commentary, and the former has been cited without reference to the longer study.
