Explained: ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 reaches key stage, what next?

Chandrayaan 2 will land on the Moon’s south polar region, unexplored by science so far.

So far, since its launch on July 22, Chandrayaan-2 had been orbiting the Earth, moving into higher and orbits.

On Wednesday, the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft left Earth’s orbit and moved towards the Moon, which it will orbit over a series of manoeuvres before the ultimate soft landing, scheduled on September 7.
