MENTAL HEALTH AND OUR CHANGING CLIMATE: IMPACTS, IMPLICATIONS, AND GUIDANCE

BABESCH43 Papazoglou Paschalidis By Lena Papazoglou-Manioudaki

https://www.academia.edu/142936236/BABESCH43_Papazoglou_Paschalidis?email_work_card=title The varied geography and the archaeological data allow us to speak of different evolutionary processes that are at work in the Early Mycenaean period in Eastern and Western Achaea. This paper focusses on Western Achaea where we witness a fragmented political landscape and the dispersion of power in local principalities. The ongoing excavation of the Mycenaean settlement at Mygdalia hill, near Patras, has given us the opportunity of a comprehensive study of domestic and tomb material of the Early Mycenaean Period and it have provided a measure of understanding this important and underrated period in Western Achaea. From the seaside at Patras to the inland plain of Pharai and all way to Elis through Portes, literally the Gateway, settlements had the means of accumulating wealth that manifests in monumental architecture, domestic and funerary, and rich grave furnishings. An attempt is also made to collect the evidence and address the issue of the elusive palatial sites in Western Achaea.

The Ancient Civilization of Tibet: Studies in myth, religion, and history of Tibet By Dr Tsewang Gyalpo Arya

https://www.academia.edu/105539283/The_Ancient_Civilization_of_Tibet_Studies_in_myth_religion_and_history_of_Tibet?nav_from=480a777d-8fd7-4bef-95a2-a54c7b785fb7 Tibet is an ancient nation with rich indigenous myths, religion, and history dating back to more than 1000 BC. Scientists have said that human civilization existed in Tibet as far as 12,000 years back, and primitive tools and implements found in the regions date back to some 8000 years. But in most of the Tibetan work and literature, it had shown as if the Tibetan civilization started from the 7th century only. Not much is discussed about pre-7th century Tibet. What little discussion found on the subject, too, is not aligned with the time and facts. The question here in the book is - does Tibet have any indigenous myth, religion, and history before the 7th century CE?

Ritual as History in Tibetan Divine Kingship: Notes on the Myth of the Khotanese Monks By Martin A Mills

https://www.academia.edu/78393323/Ritual_as_History_in_Tibetan_Divine_Kingship_Notes_on_the_Myth_of_the_Khotanese_Monks?nav_from=695f5520-48fc-468a-affe-6a776fb29e1f This article explores the historical and textual developments surrounding divine kingship in Tibet, particularly focusing on the legendary figure of Songtsen Gampo and the narrative of his encounters with Khotanese monks. It critiques previous anthropological literature on divine kingship, highlighting the importance of understanding the post hoc presentations of divinity and myth-making in Tibetan historiography. By examining these interactions, the paper seeks to illuminate how the concept of kingship has been ritualized and maintained throughout Tibetan history, suggesting that the legacy of divine kingship remains deeply intertwined with the region's cultural identity.

The Lords of the Northern Treasures: The Development of the Tibetan Institution of Rule by Successive Incarnations By Jay Valentine

https://www.academia.edu/29576026/The_Lords_of_the_Northern_Treasures_The_Development_of_the_Tibetan_Institution_of_Rule_by_Successive_Incarnations?nav_from=e1145674-9fd8-4e2c-aae5-cb241f20b1da This dissertation is a case study that critically examines the development of one particular incarnation lineage, the Lords of the Northern Treasure Tradition. The analytical goal of the case study is to develop the foundations of a theoretical framework for the further analysis of the social institution of rule by successive incarnations, which is a ubiquitous form of institutional leadership in Tibet. As the 14th Dalai Lama advances in age, his status as an “incarnate lama” (sprul sku) will increasingly become more important as the world turns its attention to the subject of his succession. This popular interest is mirrored by an equal measure of academic attention in the form of a series of books, dissertations, and conferences that also examine the subject of serial incarnation. This investigation of the development of the incarnate Lords of the Northern Treasure Tradition (byang gter) is based upon a series of biographies and autobiographies of the early patriarchs of the tradition. This collective of charismatic leaders include: Nanam Dorjé Dujom (8th c.), Tropu Lotsawa (13th c.), Gödem Truchen (14th c.), Lekden Dorjé (16th c.), Ngakgi Wangpo (17th c.), and Pema Trinlé (17th c.). The resulting perspective offers insight into the transformation of a non-monastic Nyingmapa tradition into one of the most important Nyingmapa monasteries of the seventeenth century. This dissertation also examines the implicit shift in meaning of the term "tulku." I argue that this term that was originally used to describe the Buddha as a "magical emanation" of enlightenment, is best translated as "incarnation" or "steadfast incarnation" when used in the context of the tulku system to describe patriarchs that reliably return to human form.

Tibetan Renaissance: Tantric Buddhism in the Rebirth of Tibetan Culture by Ronald M. Davidson; reviewed by Chris Haskett By Chris Haskett

https://www.academia.edu/65477094/Tibetan_Renaissance_Tantric_Buddhism_in_the_Rebirth_of_Tibetan_Culture_by_Ronald_M_Davidson_reviewed_by_Chris_Haskett?nav_from=ea188153-656b-4de2-a3d5-c8c3d7340f5c Ronald M. Davidson's Tibetan Renaissance: Tantric Buddhism in the Rebirth of Tibetan Culture explores the intersection of tantric Buddhism and the evolution of Tibetan culture between 950-1200 CE. The book presents a rich narrative of religious transmission, political organization, and intellectual exchange among Tibetan elites, yet questions remain regarding how tantra concretely contributed to social order and cohesion beyond the elite sphere. While Davidson's work is a substantial contribution to Tibetan studies, it leaves some gaps in the practical implications of tantra's role in the broader societal structure.

Tibetan Buddhism and Popular Psychology: A Case Study on the two Recent Publications by the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, and the 14th Dalai Lama By Danny M C Ching

https://www.academia.edu/11048805/Tibetan_Buddhism_and_Popular_Psychology_A_Case_Study_on_the_two_Recent_Publications_by_the_17th_Karmapa_Ogyen_Trinley_Dorje_and_the_14th_Dalai_Lama?nav_from=b33fa5b5-b1de-41c7-9c01-cbdda1136712 Both the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, and the 14th Dalai Lama are revered internationally as saints and holy men. The Tibetan Buddhist masters have been preaching around the world for many years, in forms of lectures, retreats, and publications. Among these, their publications are the most far-reaching and often occupy the best-seller section of different bookstores around the world. In these bookstores an interesting phenomenon can be observed: that their books are often categorized and displayed on the shelf labeled “self-improvement” or even “psychology”. This raises some intriguing questions: What are the common grounds between modern Buddhism and popular psychology? Being Buddhist themselves, how do they bridge Buddhist teachings and popular psychology, from an emic point of view? How do they address the mainly Western audience in this secular and scientific world? To answer these questions and analyze their attitude towards popular reception, I will select the interpretation of the distinctive Buddhist concept of compassion from the 2012 publications of the two great Tibetan teachers: The Heart is Noble by the Karmapa and Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World by the Dalai Lama respectively, contextualize it further within the various discourses of Buddhist Modernism, and thus evaluate whether the two most authoritative Buddhist teachers from Tibet are able to blaze their own unique trail. In the last part of the article will attempt to tie all the loose together by situating this trend and presentation as a method to gain and accumulate international and intellectual presence for the Tibetan community in exile. I do not attempt to argue against the spiritual advancement of the Tibetan masters, but to unravel the practical and political reasons that determine this particular approach.

The ten chapters provide a series of insights into Sino-Tibetan exchanges within religious practices and doctrines, material culture and iconography. Spanning from pre-modern encounters in Central Asia to contemporary forms of Sino-Tibetan hybridity in Chinese-speaking environments, Sino-Tibetan Buddhism Across the Ages produces further evidence that, beginning with the very introduction of Buddhism into Tibet, there were constant and fruitful contacts and blending between the Buddhist traditions developing in China and those of Tibet. The volume is dedicated to the memory of Monica Esposito.

Islamic Scholars’ Influence on Western Scientific Discourse During the Medieval Era by Ebeneser Lumban Gaol Published on: 2nd July 2025 © Copyright FSTC Ltd 2002-2020.

This study explores the substantial influence of Muslim scholars on the intellectual progress of Western society during the Medieval Era. By examining the dynamic relationship between Arab-Islam and European-Christianity, this research emphasizes the significant impact of Muslim scholars in various fields such as philosophy, science, astronomy, art, and literature. Utilizing historical methods, the study uncovers how Islam played a crucial role in shaping the development of scientific discourses in the West since the 11th century. Toledo and Sicily functioned as pathways for the Latinization of Arabic texts, extending initiatives from the Abbasid Caliphate period in the 8th century AD, particularly the translation of Greek texts into Arabic. Emphasizing the collaborative role between Islamic and Western civilizations, this research underscores that amid the historical realities of Islamic-Christian tension and conflict that marked the Middle Ages, interfaith interaction and cooperation could foster scientific progress. In this context, Islamic influence emerges as a key factor in comprehending the reciprocal exchange of ideas and knowledge that simultaneously moulded these two cultures. https://muslimheritage.com/islamic-scholars-influence/ © Copyright FSTC Ltd 2002-2020.

In Honour of Ibn al-Ha’im: Scholar and Mathematician of Jerusalem (Quds) by Salim Al-Hassani Published on: 26th June 2025 © Copyright FSTC Ltd 2002-2020.

When one remembers the numerous scholars of Palestine, there is a significant fact that comes to mind. The fact is that Palestine has always been an integral part of the Muslim world and home to many scholars, both male and female, even after the mid-20th century. This article is written to commemorate Ibn al-Ha’im al-Maqdisi (14th/15th century), one of medieval Palestine’s notable polymath scholars who was a jurist, theologian, teacher, author, grammarian, and a mathematician. Ibn al-Ha’im took a special interest in a practical branch of mathematics that was of particular use to his contemporary society, namely successoral calculations (hisab al-fara’idh). For this reason, he was also known as Ibn al-Ha’im al-Fara’idhi. https://muslimheritage.com/ibn-al-haim/ © Copyright FSTC Ltd 2002-2020.

The architecture of the genome integrates scale independence with inverse symmetry Greg Warr* [1,†] , Les Hatton [2,†]

https://www.academia.edu/3064-9765/2/2/10.20935/AcadMolBioGen7650 The simplest building blocks of the genome, the k-mers, show two properties that are arguably universal. First, their frequency distribution is scale-free (a vari- ant Zipfian or power-law distribution). Second is the inverse symmetry of k-mers on the same strand. It is clear that these phenomena are linked;...
