The music is in front, as a “rat-catcher”: A children’s procession. The bandeonista, dressed like a fool, seduces the children from different cultures, loaded with their dearest possessions, to migrate. To what place?
Our generation is the first one to experience fully the GLOBALISATION. We all travel around the globe, through the digital media we are in contact with the whole world. The whole world is “on the move”. The GREAT MIGRATION, that is what happens now. Fantastic and fascinating new possibilities! Exciting, but also threatening for those who want to stay conservative, who fly into “retaining one’s private culture” and nationalism, hiding in fear for of the unknown.

The artist (in the classic Iconography, the companion of Love) is in the lead. He is dressed like a fool and makes music.
The personal touch in this painting is the move of Poen’s stepdaughter Sarah, from France to his home in the Netherlands.

Als een “rattenvanger” gaat de muziek voorop: een optocht van kinderen en de als nar geklede bandoneoniste verleidt die kinderen met verschillende culturele achtergrond om, beladen met hun liefste bezittingen, ergens naar toe te verhuizen. Waarheen?
Onze generatie is de éérste die GLOBALISERING ten volle ervaart. We bereizen massaal de hele aardbol, we staan met de hele wereld in contact via de digitale media. De hele wereld is “on the move”. DE GROTE VOLKSVERHUIZING, dat is wat er nu gebeurt. Geweldige en fascinerende nieuwe mogelijkheden! Spannend, maar ook bedreigend voor diegenen die bij het oude willen blijven, die vluchten in “behoud van eigen cultuur” en nationalisme, zich verschuilend achter de angst voor het vreemde.
De jonge generatie die de toekomst al heeft omarmd, verhuist naar een nieuwe tijd. Zij dragen daarbij zorg voor de natuur en de cultuur .
De kunstenaar (in de klassieke iconografie de metgezel van de liefde) verkleed als musicerende nar gaat voorop.
De persoonlijke noot in dit doek is de verhuizing van Poen’s stiefdochter Sarah vanuit Frankrijk naar zijn huis in Nederland.
