NASA astronauts Chris Cassidy and Robert Behnken completed their second spacewalk in less than a week on Wednesday, July 1. The seasoned spacewalkers went outside of the International Space Station and into the vacuum of space where they swapped aging batteries and routed power cables. Behnken and Cassidy will complete the work to upgrade the station’s power systems during two additional spacewalks later this month.
Space station crew members have conducted 229 spacewalks in support of assembly and maintenance of the orbiting laboratory since 1998. Spacewalkers now have spent a total of 60 days and 34 minutes working outside the station.
