Stop hogging all the rocks
The history of our planet is far from decided. When did the earliest life arise, and when did it move onto land? What was the deal with ‘snowball Earth’, when the planet was (almost) completely iced-over? We need data wrestled from ancient rocks to find the answers, argue five geoscientists. They lay out a plan to ensure that key geological samples are available for research and don’t languish in private collections.
