In the book 'Disciplines of Modernity: Archives, Histories, Anthropologies', Saurabh Dube approaches modernity not merely as an idea or ideology but as a historical process of meaning and power stretching over the past five centuries. Critical questioning of prior Western construction of modernity puts forth a methodology based on reality rather than just academic contributions. Such questioning also unravels power formations, revealing the presence of intimacies, ambivalences and anxieties of authority. Modernity must be approached as constitutively, contradictory, contested and dependent, querying also the power and dominance of empire and nation, colony and modernity.
