Both are equipped with small ‘speaker’ holes; one is furnished with a metal ring over one of its finger holes. It is argued that they formed a single instrument (aulos) that was used for a variety of ‘modes’. Similarities with another find suggest that instruments with analogous capabilities were built in various sizes. Finally, a papyrus fragment with instrumental notation demonstrates that the extended ‘modulating’ characteristics of the present instrument were also part of traditional aulos-making. Various possible scales are exemplified on a replica. ...

With regard to caves, in contrast to other regions of Greece, they have not, until relatively recently, constituted a subject of systematic archaeological investigation. Approximately 300 sites are known, encompassing all types of underground spaces—horizontal caves, potholes, and rock shelters. Owing to the geology of the Cyclades, these are predominantly small, or more rarely medium-sized, cave formations, often with a vertical entrance. Excavations have been conducted at sites such as Chryssospilia on Folegandros, the cave of Zas on Naxos, Koutalas on Serifos, and the Cave of the Nymphs at Kamarés on Sifnos. More recent research on islands including Santorini, Paros (fig. 1), Irakleia (fig. 2), Naxos, and Tinos, among others, has yielded new evidence concerning the use of caves in the Cyclades across all phases of prehistory, demonstrating that they constitute sites of considerable archaeological significance and make a distinctive contribution to many of the broader questions and interpretative frameworks of Cycladic island archaeology.

The letters are preserved in the archives of the museums of Syros and Mykonos. Ross ran an organized antiquities service, the like of which was not seen again until the 20th century. Quantum-Resistant Trust Orchestration for Secure Internet of Robotic Things: Decentralized Consensus meets Real-Time Safety Guarantees By Nnaemeka Kingsley Ugwumba

https://www.academia.edu/144909110/Quantum_Resistant_Trust_Orchestration_for_Secure_Internet_of_Robotic_Things_Decentralized_Consensus_meets_Real_Time_Safety_Guarantees?sm=b&rhid=40222982448 This paper presents a practical trust orchestration framework for the Internet of Robotic Things that is resilient to quantum era threats while preserving real time safety for robot teams. We identify the main risks that arise when robotic systems rely on remote trust services and distributed consensus for joint tasks. We design a layered architecture that combines lightweight post quantum cryptographic primitives with a decentralized consensus protocol and a local safety monitor that enforces control invariants at run time. We provide a clear threat model and describe how the components interact to prevent common attacks and to contain faults. We evaluate the approach in mixed simulation and hardware tests that measure communication cost consensus finality and safety outcomes under adversarial conditions. Results show that the framework maintains safety bounds for robot motion even when consensus is delayed and that the selected post quantum primitives add moderate overhead that is compatible with edge class hardware. The paper contributes a full system design a set of engineering guidelines and an open evaluation suite to help researchers and engineers build safer and future proof trust services for robotic systems. ...

The Interconnectedness of All Things: A Networked Paradigm for Understanding Reality, from Quantum Mechanics to Sustainable Systems By Christopher P O’Hagan

https://www.academia.edu/127501364/The_Interconnectedness_of_All_Things_A_Networked_Paradigm_for_Understanding_Reality_from_Quantum_Mechanics_to_Sustainable_Systems?sm=b&rhid=40222982448 This paper challenges the conventional reliance on mathematical principles alone to understand quantum mechanics, highlighting the crucial role of logical reasoning and interconnectedness. By examining the inherent behaviors and characteristics of waves, strings, and particles, we argue for a more holistic, networked approach to quantum theory. We propose that waves and strings share a fundamental interconnectedness and continuity absent in particles, a distinction with profound implications for understanding quantum phenomena, particularly superposition. This networked paradigm extends beyond quantum mechanics, offering new avenues for advancing quantum computing, artificial intelligence, knowledge representation, sustainable energy solutions, and even social governance. We propose a novel framework that integrates these principles, offering a pathway for advancements in both technology and human understanding, a framework distinct from Unified Field Theory (UFT) in its focus on networked relationships rather than a single unifying force. ...

Quantum Theory and the Place of Mind in the Causal Order of Things By Paavo Pylkkanen

https://www.academia.edu/77764296/Quantum_Theory_and_the_Place_of_Mind_in_the_Causal_Order_of_Things?sm=b&rhid=40222982448 The received view in physicalist philosophy of mind assumes that causation can only take place at the physical domain and that the physical domain is causally closed. It is often thought that this leaves no room for mental states qua mental to have a causal influence upon the physical domain, leading to epiphenomenalism and the problem of mental causation. However, in recent philosophy of causation there has been growing interest in a line of thought that can be called causal anti-fundamentalism: causal notions cannot play a role in physics, because the fundamental laws of physics are radically different from causal laws. Causal anti-fundamentalism seems to challenge the received view in physicalist philosophy of mind and thus raises the possibility of there being genuine mental causation after all. This paper argues that while causal antifundamentalism provides a possible route to mental causation, we have reasons to think that it is incorrect. Does this mean that we have to accept the received view and give up the hope of genuine mental causation? I will suggest that the ontological interpretation of quantum theory provides us both with a view about the nature of causality in fundamental physics, as well as a view how genuine mental causation can be compatible with our fundamental (quantum) physical ontology. ...

The Magical Number Seven: Shared Entanglement versus Communication of a Quantum System in a CGLMP type game By Marek Zukowski

https://www.academia.edu/74158006/The_Magical_Number_Seven_Shared_Entanglement_versus_Communication_of_a_Quantum_System_in_a_CGLMP_type_game?sm=b&rhid=40222982448 Shared entanglement and communication of a quantum system are the two quantum resources for information processing. They exhibit a very intimate relationship. Qualitatively, many information processing tasks can be performed using either quantum resource. Quantitatively, the two resources often yield the same numbers for efficiencies in information processing. However, this equivalence is not always present and there are known cases when shared entanglement is more useful as a resource. Here we show the opposite behaviour: that there exists a family of games where communication of a quantum system is a more powerful resource than sharing entanglement. We introduce our family of games based on the CGLMP inequality, and investigate their efficiency with each quantum resource. We find that for low dimensions, the two resources are equivalent. However, for dimension seven and above, the equivalency is suddenly broken and communication of a quantum system becomes more powerful than shari... ...

A Medium of Magical Power: How to do Things with Voices in the Western Amazon (2013) By Bernd Brabec

https://www.academia.edu/5327334/A_Medium_of_Magical_Power_How_to_do_Things_with_Voices_in_the_Western_Amazon_2013_?sm=b&rhid=40222982448 This contribution is about functions of the voice, specifically the voice of singers among the indigenous group known as Shipibo-Konibo who dwell in the Western Amazonian rainforests. Among these people, much of curing and sorcery (commonly called 'shamanism') is achieved by singing certain chants or songs. This is done by specialists (mØdicos) who acquired a certain magical power for their voices during year-long training. Voice electrification is treated in a twofold approach: first, the question is raised, why recorded and reproduced voices do not work as carriers of said magical power ; second, how electric devices can be summoned by the specialist singers in order to enhance this power. Therefore it is necessary to explain how Amazonian magic is constructed. Language (in this case the Shipibo's) plays a crucial role, because its power of conceptualizing the conceived environment allow for active manipulation by the means of uttering certain songs or phrases. Thereby, the voice is viewed as a substantial item of transmission in an animistic ontology. By recording, this substance cannot be reproduced, the recording is but an image (like a photograph). ...

The magical "Born Rule" & quantum "measurement": Implications for Physics By Johan Hansson

https://www.academia.edu/98896668/The_magical_Born_Rule_and_quantum_measurement_Implications_for_Physics?sm=b&rhid=40222982448 I. The arena of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory is the abstract, unobserved and unobservable, M-dimensional formal Hilbert space = spacetime. II. The arena of observations and, more generally, of all events (i.e. everything) in the real physical world, is the classical 4-dimensional physical spacetime. III. The "Born Rule" is the random process "magically" transforming I. into II. Wavefunctions are superposed and entangled only in the abstract space I., never in spacetime II. Attempted formulations of quantum theory directly in real physical spacetime actually constitute examples of "locally real" theories, as defined by Clauser & Horne, and are therefore already empirically refuted by the numerous tests of Bell's theorem in real, controlled experiments in laboratories here on Earth. Observed quantum entities, i.e. events, are never superposed or entangled as they: 1) Exclusively "live" (manifest) in real physical spacetime, 2) Are not described by entangled wavefunctions after "measurement", effectuated by III. When separated and treated correctly in this way, a number of fundamental problems and "paradoxes" of quantum theory vs. relativity (i.e. spacetime) simply vanish, such as the black hole information paradox, infinite zero-point energy of quantum field theory and quantization of general relativity. ...

The Quantum Theory of the Electron -Dirac's magical work By SAMIR LIPOVACA

https://www.academia.edu/94344951/The_Quantum_Theory_of_the_Electron_Diracs_magical_work?sm=b&rhid=40222982448 This book aimed to explore the math behind Dirac's most famous paper to understand why Dirac was a magician. The paper derives the Dirac equation, one of the most important equations in physics. It seems a magical move Dirac made was, essentially, to take a square root of the Klein-Gordon operator to derive his equation. This counter-intuitive approach turned out revolutionary since it led to the prediction of the existence of antiparticles. Interestingly, Dirac in the paper was concerned only with “the interpretation of the relativity theory to be just as general as that of the non-relativity theory”. But, he stated in the paper: “The true relativity wave equation should thus be such that its solutions split up into two non-combining sets, referring respectively to the charge –𝑒 and the charge 𝑒". It took him three years to finally admit an undeniable fact: his equation describes in a unified way both particles and antiparticles. ...

Magical Things and Their Influence(s): Socrates as Sorcerer and Guide By Gunnar Footh

https://www.academia.edu/165725019/Magical_Things_and_Their_Influence_s_Socrates_as_Sorcerer_and_Guide?sm=b&rhid=40222982448 In his Republic, Plato infamously lays out strict guidelines for the production and consumption of art in his ideal society, gesturing toward its corrupting influence on children and the populace. While much has been written on Plato’s general claim of poetics’ corrupting influence, it is not exactly clear why Plato, in his Republic for example, likens the power and operations of (mimetic) poetry, rhetoric, and the like to sorcery (goêteia). If we accept that Plato’s terminology is not accidental but intentional, I contend that Plato has good reason to employ magical language and characterizations beyond merely inheriting mythical-magical terms and concepts from ancient Greek culture. In this essay, I will analyze Plato’s magical characterization of poetry and its banishment from the ideal city due in large part because of its corrupting and misleading influence on the soul, and I will demonstrate that this claim is reified by the characters of Rikako and Rouichi Ouryou in the sci-fi dystopian anime Psycho-Pass. However, in tandem with Plato’s many characterizations of poetics as sorcery, the Ouryou’s present us with an opportunity to re-characterize the role of Socrates. Therefore, I marshal evidence to support, and encourage us to re-imagine, that Socrates as philosopher is a novel form of psychopomp who leads souls from one place to the next and provides them guidance prior to and during the journey. This reading provides clarification on why Plato uses magical language to characterize rhetoric, poetry, and the character of Socrates himself, providing new directions for researching the Platonic corpus. ...

In his new book, “Swiss Humanitarian Aid for SS War Criminals: On the Establishment of a Nationalist Settler Colony in Brazil, 1949–1952/59” (Zurich: Chronos-Verlag 2026), historian Peter Hug recounts one of Switzerland's largest “humanitarian” operations following World War II. This initiative helped a resolute group to establish a racially defined, closed settler colony in Brazil in 1951–52, with the aim of preserving the idea of the German master race into the post-Nazi era. The fact that former members of the Waffen-SS were involved did not seem to truly bother either the Swiss relief organizations involved or the federal authorities—nor did the racist view of Brazil’s indigenous population, whom the settlers partly drove out and partly exploited as cheap labor. My brief presentation, which I delivered at the book launch at the Swiss Federal Archives in Bern on May 18, 2026, situates this study within the history of the postwar period. ...

The volume reviews the main fields of AI application – from remote sensing and artefact classification to 3D reconstruction and epigraphy – highlighting both their potential and their limits. At the core of the book lies the distinction between data processing and historical interpretation: AI can enhance the archaeologist’s work, but it cannot replace human judgement. The result is a balanced assessment of AI as a valuable tool, provided it is used with methodological awareness and critical sense. ...

The ERATO project and its contribution to our understanding of the acoustics of ancient Greek and Roman theatres By Jens Holger Rindel

https://www.academia.edu/65892936/The_ERATO_project_and_its_contribution_to_our_understanding_of_the_acoustics_of_ancient_Greek_and_Roman_theatres The ancient Greek and Roman theatres are famous for the excellent acoustics. However, it is not generally well known that different kinds of theatres were built, for different purposes and with different acoustical conditions. One of the aims in the ERATO project has been to investigate the acoustics of the open air theatres and compare to the smaller, originally roofed theatres, also called odea (from Greek: Odeion, a hall for song and declamation with music). The method has been to make computer models of the spaces, first as the exist today, and adjust the acoustical data for surface materials by comparison to acoustical measurements from some of the best preserved examples, namely the Aspendos theatre in Turkey and the South theatre in Jerash, Jordan. Next step was to complete the computer models in accordance with archaeological information, to make virtual reconstructions of the spaces. The acoustical simulations have given a lot of interesting information about the acoustical... ...

Predicting the Acoustics of Ancient Open-Air Theatres: The Importance of Calculation Methods and Geometrical Details By Jens Holger Rindel

Most computer simulations are either based on geometrical room acoustics or statistical methods, hereby neglecting diffraction and interference effects. The calculation algorithms in this type of simulations often combine the image-source method and the ray-tracing technique. In this paper, the acoustics of an open-air roman theatre are investigated. This is a special case which sets up a challenge to these prediction methods. The absence of a roof and therefore of a reverberant field, demands high accuracy in predicting the early reflections. The energy dissipates quickly in this type of enclosures and there is little masking effect of the reverberation. The inverse cone shape of these theatres also puts serious limitations to the image-source method, where great areas are in the shadow zone of the mirroring surface. Another aspect that has bee... ...

Computational methods for processing the 3D models allow for a more accurate analysis of surfaces, volumes, internal structures, and density of materials. Moreover, being non-invasive, these methods enable the study of the instruments' measurements and morphology, overcoming the limitations posed by their fragility. Although reconstructions cannot tell us unequivocally how ancient users and audiences perceived the sounds of these instruments, they offer the chance to break through the time barrier by reviving sound emissions. By combining optical metrology with computational analysis, some of the subjective observations on ancient instruments can be substituted by measurable parameters, opening up new perspectives for the study of sounds and the artisan production process of ancient instruments. As it has emerged from the STESICHOROS project-which has been funded by the European Commission's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme-, studies on 3D virtual reconstructions and sound simulations can help us in defining novel approaches and methodologies not only for the "active preservation" of musical instruments, but also in enriching our understanding of ancient music and musical cultural heritage. Moreover, the webinar aims to explore the ancient sonic interactions and the spatial configuration of sanctuaries and theatres in their respective landscapes and environment in order to investigate the use of auralisation technology in the archaeological field, as well as experimental interpretative 3D reconstruction integrating acoustic models. ...

Sucked Trumpets in Prehistoric Europe and North America? A Technological, Acoustical and Experimental Study By Riitta Rainio

https://www.academia.edu/42250909/Sucked_Trumpets_in_Prehistoric_Europe_and_North_America_A_Technological_Acoustical_and_Experimental_Study?rhid=40194874358&swp=rr-rw-wc-167341566&nav_from=78102354-ac63-41e3-8be5-bc4501b95628 In the Hornbostel-Sachs system of musical instrument classification, the aerophones proper are presumed to be blown instruments. Several trumpets from northern Eurasia, North America and South America, however, have traditionally been played in the opposite way, by inhaling. These sucked trumpets, counting among lip-vibrated instruments, have been used for calling game, as well as playing melodies. This article presents prehistoric bone artefacts from Ajvide, Gotland, Sweden (c. 2900–2300 cal. BC) and Eva, Benton county, Tennessee (5700–4700 BC), and discusses whether they could be regarded as early examples of sucked trumpets. The tubular artefacts are made from swan (Cygnus sp.) and wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) ulnae and radii by cutting, scraping and filing the bones and fitting them together. Similar two-piece structure turns up in the traditional wing bone turkey calls used to this day by North American hunters. The copies of the artefacts produce a variety of clucking, yelping and trumpeting sounds, when played with the sucking technique. The two-piece structure could have an acoustic motive or meaning, as it enables to make the sound louder and to modify the tone colour. ...

Modelling of Shell Trumpet Overtones and Acoustics of Helicoidal Geometries By Francisca Zalaquett

https://www.academia.edu/167341566/Modelling_of_Shell_Trumpet_Overtones_and_Acoustics_of_Helicoidal_Geometries?email_work_card=title In this work, the propagation of acoustic waves in shell trumpets is explored, and the overtones generated by them are studied. We consider different shell geometries, for which their particular morphology is taken into account. This impacts the fundamental frequencies as well as the overtones. An analytical model based on differential equations is developed to predict these overtones and compared with real recordings of some shell trumpets belonging to several collections in Mexico (experimental results). As a consequence, the notes of archaeological shells that cannot be played due to their physical damage are estimated. ...

Organisational Politics: The Positive & Negative Sides By European Scientific Journal ESJ

https://www.academia.edu/167334985/Organisational_Politics_The_Positive_and_Negative_Sides There are two ways of viewing organisational politics: either as a symptom of social influence processes that benefit the organisation, or a self serving effect that goes against the organisational goals (Mintzberg, 1985: 148; Gotsis & Kortezi, 2010: 498). Nevertheless, the concept of organisational politics is a key social influence process that can be either functional or dysfunctional to employees and organisations (Allen et al, 1979: 82). Organisational politics, as argued by various researchers, can be either positive or negative (Othman, 2008: 44) and this paper delves into both sides of the organisational politics by offering examples from literature and research carried out throughout the years. ...

It is very interesting to note here that the painted decoration of some nippled ewers includes female jewellery and sometimes non-anatomical eyes. Therefore, the Early Cycladic female marble figurines and the Middle Cycladic and Late Cycladic ceramic nippled ewers constitute two groups of different, distinctive objects that nevertheless share certain characteristics. These characteristics are either general, such as their large number and their wide distribution in the Cycladic islands, or they are completely specific, such as the plastic breasts, painted jewellery, and painted non-anatomical eyes, indicating that the female-shaped jugs are, to a certain extent, replacing their predecessors, the marble female figurines, as message transmitters. During the Late Cycladic I period the vessel was mainly manufactured at Akrotiri on Thera. The nippled ewers were produced there in large quantities and in two variations (with cut-away and with straight beaked spout), each with a stereotyped decoration. The excellent state of the town preservation helped in that large numbers survived to reach us. The nippled ewers are often found at Akrotiri in the place where the inhabitants left them when they abandoned the settlement. In several cases, they are even revealed neatly arranged in cupboards. The rich pictorial pottery repertoire of the Akrotiri final phase includes the painted nippled ewer. Studying the considerable corpus of the nippled ewers of Akrotiri’s final phase, one realizes that a single interpretative treatment of these vessels, despite their general common features, is not sufficiently subtle. This is because the nippled ewers of the two main variations in this phase show significant differences between themselves in terms of shape, decoration, context, and ultimately the function and messages they convey. Their separate examination helps us to understand many aspects of the Akrotiri society with which these vessels are associated. ... This is a paper about the roles of women in the prehistoric Aegean. The long-lasting and ubiquitous presence of the nippled ewer at Akrotiri, Thera echoes in some way, in addition to its religious and cultic importance, the special presence of women, of the women in the Cyclades, the Kykladitisses, in the society of the time (the Middle and early Late Bronze Ages). There women played an important role at an economic and social level (as being involved in the exploitation of the precious plant, the crocus, as weavers, as priestesses, as mothers). It also reflects their particular significant moments in life (adulthood, marriage and childbirth) and the fact that their fertility, like the fertility of nature, was the basis for the renewal, cohesion and strength of the community.

Defining Organisational Politics By European Scientific Journal ESJ

https://www.academia.edu/167334964/Defining_Organisational_Politics The paper discusses the type of political behaviour, mainly Mintzberg's (1985) collection of games, Allen et al's (1979) individual political tactics, and Lawrence et al's (2005) types of power, as well as the causes of political behaviour. Some argue that politics are rooted in the wider configured environment (Gotsis & Kortezi, 2010: 498), while others argue that politics are a result of interpersonal antagonisms (Vince, 2001) or emotional matters (Vince, 2002). With regards to organisational politics, the literature presents various types of political behaviours, and research to date tackled the area of politics mostly in a purely theoretical manner. Moreover, studies presented to date have paid more attention to the general perceptions of politics rather than the observable political behaviours. ...

The futurity of rock reliefs: materiality and temporality of remains By Ömür Harmansah

https://www.academia.edu/167360585/The_futurity_of_rock_reliefs_materiality_and_temporality_of_remains Excited to share this new article that just came out in World Art. It originates in a lovely session at TAG Santa Fe two years ago, and it has been such a pleasure to write it. It is part of the Special Dossier "Artiplaces: Ecological & Ontological Entanglements of Ancient Artworks" wonderfully edited by Benjamin Alberti & Christopher Watts I asked the question- how do we make sense of an image or inscription carved on the surface of a living rock thousands of years ago? What is the sense of time and temporality, the very idea of the future embedded in that very gesture? What exactly did they dream of? I have been writing about rock monuments for a long time but this is the first time I am taking up this question of #futurity. What is the temporal, material, and representational status of what (selectively) reaches us from deep antiquity? In this paper, I explore the deep temporality of the altered rock, i.e. rock-carved images and inscriptions as durable and stubborn remains of the past, hailing for us from the temporal depths of history and the weathered surfaces of geology. Rather than accepting their durability as an accident of history, I invite readers to consider the politics of carving the rock as a site-specific and future-oriented, gesture, a creative one, with a sense of reaching posterity and a desire to claim legacy. Thinking through the perspective of the futurity of archaeological things and applying them to rock-cut images and inscriptions, I consider, in this essay, how one would make sense of an image or inscription carved on the surface of a living rock. Thinking beyond the visual content of the image and/or the inscription (which is often the case with art historical and philological studies of rock monuments without sufficient consideration of their landscape context), I ask a question more in tune with the archaeological imagination of these monuments: how does one articulate the creative and materially enduring, tectonic act of embedding an image onto a geological surface? And how is this site-specific act made meaningful within the very particular yet long-term history and politics of the local ecology or landscape? Here, I interrogate the rock-carved monuments through three aspects of engaging with the geology of the place: temporality, materiality, and coloniality. I argue that these three aspects of monument-making are fundamental to understanding the nature of this gesture of carving. Finally, I will turn to a few examples of architectural interventions in Bronze and Iron Age Anatolia where a special mimetic engagement with the mineral world is well documented. ...

Hello Universe: NASA’s Next-Gen Space Processor Undergoes Testing

https://www.nasa.gov/technology/hello-universe-nasas-next-gen-space-processor-undergoes-testing/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nn202619 Today’s spacecraft still rely on older processors — not because they’re fast, but because they’re rugged enough to survive the extreme conditions of space. But enabling truly autonomous missions, accelerating scientific discovery, and supporting astronauts on journeys to the Moon and Mars will require far more computing power. That need is driving the High Performance Spaceflight Computing project, which is developing a new radiation‑hardened processor expected to deliver up to 100 times the performance of current spaceflight computers.

Nearly 6,000 colored dots scattered across the image mark the locations of confirmed or candidate exoplanets — worlds beyond our solar system — identified by the mission as of September 2025. TESS surveys the entire sky by searching for periodic dips in starlight believed to be caused by planets transiting the host star. Its four identical, red‑sensitive, wide‑field cameras monitor a 24‑degree by 90‑degree strip of sky at a time. Each strip is observed continuously for 27 days at a 2‑second cadence. Over successive years, TESS will tile both the southern and northern hemispheres.

https://issnationallab.org/case_study/designing-safer-space-habitats/ Understanding how microbes behave in closed environments is critical for protecting human health, whether in space or on Earth. In our latest case study, researchers from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the University of California, San Diego mapped how microbes and chemical traces accumulate across living spaces onboard the International Space Station (ISS). They sampled more than 800 surfaces to build the first 3D microbial and chemical map of the space station. The study revealed that microbes don’t spread randomly but follow patterns shaped by human activity, with astronauts as the primary source. These insights could help engineers design safer habitats for long-duration space missions. On Earth, they could improve microbial control in hospitals, submarines, and other closed environments—reducing health risks and building more resilient spaces. Burial Customs in Hellenistic Iasos. Archaeological Evidence from the Area of the “Prehistoric Necropolis” By Daniela Baldoni

https://www.academia.edu/41996306/Burial_Customs_in_Hellenistic_Iasos_Archaeological_Evidence_from_the_Area_of_the_Prehistoric_Necropolis_?rhid=40131817540&swp=rr-rw-wc-2504439&nav_from=c1bc520d-2ced-4cca-80f6-3bac0f4a7a14 The purpose of this paper is to examine a group of graves, dating to the Hellenistic period, particularly interesting for their location and the presence of burials marked by funerary monuments on the surface. Their typology and the wealth of the grave goods, that include gold ornaments and terracotta figurines, has no comparisons among the coeval Iasian tombs. The analysis of these findings, well characterized from a formal and ritual point of view, aims to include them in the local thematic framework and specify their relationships and chronology. ...

https://www.academia.edu/167159710/Privileged_Access_and_Qualia In this paper I shall examine some recent literature that purports to show that sensations or qualia are not real psychological phenomena, and that we do not have privileged access to our psychological states. In particular, I shall criticize some work by Daniel C. Dennett, who has argued against the existence of qualia and privileged access to the mental. I will maintain that Dennett has not made a convincing case for eliminating qualia, and has not shown that we do not have privileged access to psychological phenomena from a first-person point of view. ...

The opposite of indifference being desire, the opportunity presents itself, in order to answer the problem that it constitutes, to wonder about the relation between the human being and God insofar as it implies the desire of communion in love. In this article, the interrogation first relates to the salvation God invites us to desire, and then to this same salvation, in so far as it is not only wanted, but desired by God. It is shown that despite the contrary opinion of Augustine and Aquinas, an uninterrupted stream of fathers of the Church, mystics and theologians has always more insistently recognized and announced such a desire. Once this little-known fact exposed, its significance and its important theological and spiritual consequences are established. The main thesis is that our salvation is not infallibly decided by God, but infinitely desired by him. The approach leads to the proposal of lines of thinking and action concerning the problem of indifference. ...
