In general, the dietary pattern of adults and juveniles shows a heavy reliance on mainly terrestrial foods; C3 plants and a varying amount of animal protein (meat, milk or dairy products). The high nitrogen values of some individuals from the East cemetery indicate a substantial consumption of animal protein, although the carbon values show that no detectable amounts of marine foods, or C4 plants such as millet had been consumed. High nitrogen values as well as the high slaughter age of domestic animals, as found in previous studies point towards a significant utilization of milk and dairy products at Asine. A low increase of nitrogen values in subadults younger than one years of age from Barbouna compared to females at the East cemetery indicates that these children may have been fed breast milk as well as supplementary foods. Therefore, despite the poor preservation and uneven sample size, the Asine isotopic data give us information on diet during the MH period, as well as variation between the members of the community. How power emerged and was exercised, how it reproduced itself, how social units (from households to cities) became integrated into political formations and how these articulations of power expanded and collapsed over time. The resilience of very particular areas (Oaxaca in Mesoamerica, Middle Egypt in the Nile Valley), to the point that they preserved a highly distinctive cultural personality irrespective of their integration into a state, may provide a useful guideline about the basics of integration, negotiation and autonomy in the organization of political formations and ancient states. Furthermore, both regions were crucial nodes in extensive economic networks. This offered many possibilities to accumulate wealth and power to their populations, but also attracted expansionist foreign powers eager to control such lucrative trading circuits. A final crucial point is that both societies developed very characteristic monumental manifestations of power, not only in their physical aspect (temples, tombs, plazas) but also in the way these monuments addressed a broader public seen as a significant actor and provider of legitimacy, that should then be integrated in public ceremonies that stressed the idea of community.

https://www.academia.edu/3065-9736/3/2/10.20935/AcadNano8337 Introduction: Noncoplanar magnetic textures such as skyrmion and bimeron crystal (BMX) phases have attracted considerable interest in frustrated magnetic systems. However, the effect of lattice distortion on the competition among multiple-Q magnetic instabilities remains unclear. Materials and methods: We investigate a distorted triangular-lattice spin model with easy-plane single-ion anisotropy under an external magnetic field by means of simulated annealing calculations. The magnetic phases are characterized through magnetization, scalar spin chirality, real-space spin textures, and spin structure factors. Results: We find that lattice distortion qualitatively reconstructs the competition among symmetry-related ordering wave vectors and modifies the stability of multiple-Q magnetic phases. Near the isotropic limit, an intermediate-field BMX phase with finite scalar spin chirality is stabilized. Increasing distortion destabilizes the BMX phase and induces transitions into distinct coplanar and noncoplanar triple-Q phases. The distortion also lifts the degeneracy among the ordering wave vectors and selectively enhances specific modulation channels. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that lattice distortion acts as an effective control parameter for tuning field-induced multiple-Q instabilities in centrosymmetric frustrated magnets.
