The images of the tomb depicted within the surrounding landscape in New Kingdom art are an interesting topic, both from an artistic and religious point of view, as they are attested in the decorative repertoire of the Theban tombs from the New Kingdom, especially in the XVIIIth and XIXth Dynasties. Egyptian artists built a complex image based on the combination of several significant elements, such as the mud-brick pyramid, the monumental doorway, the colonade or the stela, sometimes within the slope of a hill or mountain. These images belong to a synthethic trend of representation, comcentrated in the available space in the tomb-walls, standing as an abstraction of symbolic elements rendered in a non-realistic fashion. Through the research of this ‘visual abstraction’ of the tomb, it could be understood which parts were essential to the mentality of New Kingdom Egyptian artists and how these elements were transferred from their imagination to the walls of the private tombs in a very conceptual way. Besides, it is neccesary to confront the images of tombs with the archaeological data of their specific architecture, in order to point out if corresponds to the archaological remains or it is an archetipical rendering. To sum up, they stand as images which evolve from a simple model (based on the hieroglyphic sign of chapel) towards a complex representation of an ellaborated and visually atractive tomb.
