Yungang Grottoes

Constructed against the mountain, these grottoes stretch over a kilometer from east to west and encapsulate an astounding 45 caves, 252 Buddhist shrines and 59,000 statues within an 18,000 square meter area. They were inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2001.
