As a surprise, she sang for Poen de Wijs at the opening of one of his exhibitions. Young as she then was, yet so mature in her voice and expression. It was therefore inevitable that Poen would one day paint her. Nothing is more difficult than to depict a singer, while singing. With his technique - image sequences in time - a sensitive and lively portrait emerged In 2002, and a lithography ‘Let's Party!' was made. Caroline was depicted along with her sister, the clown Nicole de Rooij. They are both daughters of Karel (MINI) de Rooij.
The jazz singer Caroline de Rooij did her training at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and with jazz icons such as Mark Murphey and Jeanne Lee. She lives in Vienna and teaches jazz vocals at the Conservatory of Klagenfurt. Caroline is performing throughout Europe. She has released two albums: ‘River’ (2000) and ‘Circus Girl’ (2007).
