Toos van Holstein (Eindhoven, 1949) is an artist in the modern-figurative direction. She studied art and art history at the Academy in Tilburg, where she for graduated Mo-B in 1978. From 1970-1990 she was a teacher in aesthetics. In 1983 she had her first oil paintings exhibition. She lives and works in Middelburg, in the Dutch province of Zeeland.

"Occasionally I love to make a lithography. But there has to be an occasion, because it remains a very special process in which I need to throw myself. For this 200-year old technique requires an intense collaboration between the artist as a creator and the lithographer as a technical wizard. "sais Toos.

She makes no figurative paintings in the sense that the viewer is presented a clear story. Always the free imagination can take its course unrestrained. With this, she evokes images of meetings, 'passages' and experiences gained during her travels in southern Europe, the Middle and Far East and the Americas. She is also inspired by writers like Dante (Divina Commedia or the Divine Comedy), Gabriel García Márquez, Tolkien or ancient Germanic writings like the Edda. This way, she creates a private world in which elements of old and new cultures merge. Her artist's motto is 'for me art is travelling the mind'.

Toos regularly exhibits in galleries in the Netherlands, countries like Belgium, France, Italy, United Kingdom and the USA.
