The lithograph shows an image of time of the period in which The Netherlands had its postwar reconstruction. The maker is Wim Zwiers. He was born in Rotterdam (1922) and was a Dutch graphic artist, engraver, illustrator, painter, sculptor, glass painter, and he was a teacher in a college in Groningen.
From 1940 he followed an education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, where he graduated in 1944. From 1946 to 1974 he was attached to the this academy as an instructor in the graphic arts. In 1948, Zwiers was one of the three Dutch designers who participated in the Prix de Rome.
Also, he made hundreds of bookplates. Around 1992, he started to use the computer for making bookplates and other small graphics. Although he was not the first, he surprised everybody when at 70 years of age, he started with such new technology as a renowned copper and wood-engraver.
