Dhanteras 2018 (Dhantrayodashi 2018) Date, History: Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi marks the beginning of Diwali celebrations. On this day, devotees pay their respects to Lord Kubera and Goddess Lakshmi. This year, the auspicious festival falls on November 5.

According to Drikpanchang, the Dhanteras puja should be performed during the pradosh kaal that starts after sunset and lasts for two hours and 24 minutes. Sthir lagna is considered to be the best time to start the puja. The word ‘Sthir’ means immovable or fixed. It is believed that during this auspicious period, Goddess Lakshmi resides inside the home, thus making it the most suitable time for Dhanteras Puja.
It is a common practice for people to clean up their household and make imprints of little feet on the floor with a mixture of rice and flour.
There is also a long-standing custom of buying gold during Dhanteras. It is believed that a symbolic buying of gold, silver, jewellery, and utensils will act as protection against ill will and bring good luck to every member of the family.
