At that time you could enter the tunnels and, with 'borrowed' lightbulbs from the dorms, we could explore the full 8 km of tunnels, including those that were off-limits to tourists. I later returned to the university for graduate studies in 1980, at which point my research became more focused on the archaeology of the city.
