On working with AI - some reasoned recommendations Michael Shanks 2026, mshanks.com

https://www.academia.edu/172786200/On_working_with_AI_some_reasoned_recommendations?email_work_card=title Prompted by 2026 reports from Stanford and MIT, this commentary argues for AI policy that arises from pedagogy, science studies, and epistemology, rather than from administrative expediency and a desire to restore discredited modes of learning threatened by generative AI. Knowledge has never been made by solitary minds: it emerges from collaborative ecologies of people, instruments, and institutions. AI joins this company as participant, not mere tool. The recommendation is therefore to work with AI openly — testing, disclosing, remaining answerable — and reject policies of suspicion and policing in favor of designing educational experiences worth having.
