Meritaton & Ankhesenamun: The Royal Daughters of Queen Nefertiti The first part of this volume focuses on Meritaton (aka Merytaten), the enigmatic and often elusive Queen of Akhet-Aton. Distinctive in iconographic art for her shaven head and frequent depictions without clothing, her historical role remains highly debated. This book synthesizes critical data and visual evidence to analyse her pivotal position during the transition from the declining Amarna period under Nefertiti (Smenkhkare) back to the traditional state concept re-established under King Tutankhamun. The second part reconstructs the life and demise of Ankhesenamun, queen consort to Tutankhamun, based on contemporary historical sources. It features a detailed discussion on whether she can be identified as the mysterious 'Dahamunzu', author of the extraordinary letter to the Hittite king. Utilizing attributable imagery, the study explores Ankhesenamun’s physical appearance and evaluates current academic debates surrounding potential maternal mummies (such as KV 21A or CG 61076). Furthermore, the text addresses the possibility that her final resting place remains undiscovered, given the lack of recorded traces pointing to a looted tomb. Revised, updated, and enlarged 2026 edition.
