His most famous work is Il Quarto Stato ("The Fourth Estate"). This rich, expressive work has become a well-known symbol for progressive and socialist causes in Italy, and throughout Europe. The painting is shown during the opening credits of Bernardo Bertolucci's film 1900.
I've seen this painting once in reality, and it made a enormous impression on me. It is huge, and it is like the people are walking into you.
The movie 1900 is really worth seeing if you like epic movies like "La Meglio Gioventù", and "Heimat"
