A vision for Academia Earth and Planetary Science Claudio Faccenna* [1,2]

https://www.academia.edu/academia-earth-and-planetary-science/1/1/10.20935/AcadEPS8150 It is a pleasure to introduce Academia Earth and Planetary Science, an open-access, international journal dedicated to advancing our understanding of Earth and planetary systems across space and time. The Earth and planetary sciences stand at a critical juncture: unprecedented volumes of data, rapid methodological innovation, and increasing societal relevance demand new, integrative platforms for scientific exchange. At the same time, barriers to publication, disciplinary fragmentation, and uneven global representation continue to limit the full potential of our community. Academia Earth and Planetary Science was created to respond to these challenges. Our mission is to provide a rigorous, inclusive, and visible home for research that spans the deep Earth, surface processes, oceans, atmosphere, biosphere, and planetary analogs—recognizing that Earth’s evolution cannot be understood in isolation, but only within a broader planetary context. By emphasizing cross-disciplinary insight and integrative approaches, the journal aims to foster connections across traditional boundaries and to support research that addresses both fundamental questions and pressing geoscientific challenges. As the journal develops, our ambition is to establish Academia Earth and Planetary Science as a trusted and forward-looking venue that reflects the diversity, creativity, and global reach of contemporary Earth and planetary science.
