Diwali 2018 (Deepavali 2018) Date in India: The festival of lights, Diwali is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show across the country every year. The five day festival (Panch Maha Parva) which symbolises prosperity, health and positivity is usually observed in the month of October or November. The main night usually coincides with the Hindu Lunisolar month ‘Kartika’ in ‘Bikram Sambat’ calendar. This year, Deepawali falls on November 7.
It begins with the pious occasion of Dhanteras followed by Anant Chaturdashi on the second day. The grand celebrations take place on the third day where people light up and decorate their house with lamps, candles, beautiful lanterns and worship the Goddess of wealth, Laxmi. The fourth day called as Padwa Diwali is observed in honour of the notional return of the (Daitya)-king Bali to earth. The festival ends with Bhai Dooj which celebrates the bond between a brother and a sister.
