Translation is crucial to early medieval missionary activity. Many missionaries could not speak the language of the people they desired to convert and used translators to get the message of Christianity to mission-field peoples. This paper considers some examples of translation in the conversion of the Goths, the Anglo-Saxons, the Frisians and the Danes.
