Why Israel Owes Its Survival to This One Kibbutz

In May 1948, just days after Israel declared independence, 150 defenders at Kibbutz Yad Mordechai faced an Egyptian force nearly 14 times their size. They held out for six days, losing their homes and fields, and many lives, while buying critical time for the young Jewish state. Seventy-five years later, the kibbutz was again attacked from Gaza. Built in memory of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, Yad Mordechai has repeatedly been forced to fight for its own survival.
