This thesis explores the resurgence of religion within contemporary art, contextualizing it against the backdrop of secularization, particularly following the events of 9/11. It argues that the return to religion in art challenges the notion of a purely secularized society and highlights the malleability of religious structures as they permeate various aspects of contemporary life, including politics and culture. By employing the theories of Hegel and Nietzsche, and engaging with contemporary theorists like Terry Eagleton and Slavoj Žižek, the thesis aims to illuminate the complex relationship between religion and art, demonstrating that despite secularization's efforts, religion continues to influence contemporary society in multifaceted ways.
