7th Conference on the History of Publishing: Book Censorship and Prohibitions in the Atlantic and Pacific Worlds, 17–19 June 2026 (Barcelona)

https://www.academia.edu/community/Lm4D7e This conference will explore the structure and operation of the Crown’s secular systems, regulations and officials or agents that influenced or restricted the publication, circulation and consumption of printed matter in the Spanish Atlantic and Pacific territories. Papers may address publication policies, civil control of books, and the negotiation strategies employed by authors and other actors in their relations with the pre-publication control system. Studies on legal provisions affecting book trafficking and the civil authorities responsible for enforcement in the context of distribution control in the Carrera de Indias and the Manila Galleon are also accepted, as well as on the collection or prohibition of distribution in regional distribution circuits within the American territories, from the introduction of the printing press in the 16th century in America to the processes of independence of the new American republics.
