Subtle energies range across prāṇa, “cosmic power” (p. 25), qi, telluric power, and animal magnetism. The authors are historicizing these phenomena, and interactions between science and religion are fascinating (New Thought, Theosophy), despite science largely being relegated to secondary importance.
