This endeavor is prompted by the discovery of a lead ampoule containing representations of the Thessalonian saints Dimitrios and Theodora, in Gâdinți, Neamț County. Found through the use of a metal detector in 2021, the container measures 7 cm in height and 5 cm in diameter. It was handed over in accordance with regulations to the Neamț County Directorate for Culture, which deposited it in the heritage collection of the “Ștefan cel Mare” County Museum in Vaslui. Although many examples of this type of koutrouvion have been found south of the Danube, the Gâdinți ampoule represents a unique discovery for Romania. It most closely resembles a specimen uncovered during archaeological investigations in 1974 at the Stalać Fortress in Serbia. The location where the Romanian specimen was discovered may help explain its presence. Koutrouvia are predominantly associated with military sites, and this example was found near Smeredovo Fortress, which, translated from Slavic, means “Fortress of St. Demetrius”. It was built by Voivode Ștefan cel Mare (1457–1504) at the assembly point for the troops of the Principality of Moldavia
