Truitt’s Medieval Robots: Mechanism, Magic, Nature and Art (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2015). This excellent co-authored volume by Hans Henrik Lohfert Jørgensen, Laura Katrine Skinnebach and Henning Laugerud treats much the same subject matter, but approaches it from the methodological frame of animism, and is beautifully illustrated so that readers can see how the images, statues, machines, and other representations imitated life. ...
