The study starts by discussing the concepts of Egyptology and Egyptomania, as recently explored by both international and Brazilian authors. To understand the subject, two surveys were devised, the first one to understand the knowledge about the subject by students before formal contact with ancient Egypt in the school. A second survey is carried out after the study of the subject, when pupils had learnt about ancient Egypt.
