Religious and Spiritual Abuse: Four Dimensions By Carole Cusack and Tova Olsson

https://www.academia.edu/143704351/Religious_and_Spiritual_Abuse_Four_Dimensions?email_work_card=title 1. Education. Children in fringe religions are often home-schooled, isolated from mainstream education and their non-religious peers, and are thus ignorant of many aspects of the world they live in (science, human rights, politics etc.). • 2. Medicine and health. Fringe and minority religions often reject Western medicine and for children with health problems this can mean death. • 3. Money. Into adulthood members of fringe religions can have little chance to earn their own money and may be in situations very close to forced labour and modern slavery. • 4. Sex. Often there is no choice about who you can marry or have sex with (apart from being offered to gurus/ leaders as little more than children). Also, marriage tends to happen early, with no sex education or contraception.
