Cosmic Repair Spacewalks
Set to Start this Friday
The International Space Station’s cosmic particle detector will get its first repair job during a series of spacewalks starting this Friday, Nov. 15.

Commander Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency will lead at least four excursions into the vacuum of space. NASA Flight Engineer Andrew Morgan will assist the commander. The duo will use the new tools and hardware on a series of spacewalks to repair the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer’s thermal control system.
Astronauts (from left) Luca Parmitano, Christina Koch and Andrew Morgan are pictured at the robotics workstation inside the cupola, the International Space Station’s “window to the world.”
Live spacewalk coverage begins Friday at 5:30 a.m. EST on NASA TV, our website and the NASA YouTube channel.
