watercolour
50.2 x 37.5 cm. (19.8 x 14.8 in.)

Born in Sunderland, William Kay Blacklock painted landscape and genre works in oil and watercolour, exhibiting at the RA 1897-1918 and the R.O.I. He was trained at the Royal College of Art, and lived consecutively in Sunderland, London and Edinburgh, before establishing himself in Leicester with his wife and fellow artist Mrs Nellie Blacklock.
Blacklock's watercolours range from the rapid sketch to the highly-finished work, but share a harmonious character. His sitters are often engaged in quiet activity or, if outdoors, appear to be resting.
