Hindi author-poet Ashok Chakradhar and poet Kunwar Bachan will feature in a kavi sammelan called Neeraj ka Karvaan, in the memory of popular poet-writer Gopal Das Neeraj, who passed away in July this year.
The seventh edition of Jashn-e-Adab promises to bring together artistes, writers, painters, musicians and singers who work with the languages Hindi, Urdu and its confluence Hindustani. “When we started in 2012, there weren’t many literature festivals. We realised that there were youngsters who were talented but lacked experience. The only options for them were the old-school mushairas and government-sponsored seminars. We decided to take Urdu poetry and literature to the youngsters. Such an event will not only give the youth an opportunity to connect with their shared heritage but will also encourage other such events in the coming times,” said Kunwar Ranjeet Chauhan, General-Secretary of the Jashn-e-Adab Foundation, at a press conference in Delhi.
To be held at the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts in Delhi, the line-up of the festival includes films, discussions, theater, mushairas and music. To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, M Sayeed Alam’s theatre group, Pierrot’s Troupe, will stage the production Mohan se Mahatma, on the inaugural day. The evening will also see Pandit Chhannulal Mishra present Khayal Gayan.
The foundation will also award a number of personalities for excellence in the fields of Urdu fiction writing, Indian classical music and dance, humour and satire poetry, among others. Urdu poet-translator Farhat Ehsas will be conferred with the Jashn-e-Adab Award for his contribution to the language, so will Hindi poet Som Thakur.

A soulful qawwali by Junaid Sultani will conclude the festival.
